Downtown Calgary's most unique icon
What are the Trees?
The 300W block (Bankers Hall) of Stephen Avenue Walk is home to ten white steel sculptures that tower 20-25 m (70-85 feet) above the avenue. Each tree holds a large light that projects dozens of colour combinations at timed intervals, providing a unique urban experience.
Who manages the trees / the area? The Calgary Downtown Association works with Brookfield Properties (Bankers Hall), Oxford Properties (TD Square) and the City of Calgary to coordinate use of and operational issues regarding the space. The tree light show and music selections are determined by the Calgary Downtown Association.
Who paid for the trees? TrizecHahn Office Properties paid for the project as part of the final phase of the construction of the second Bankers Hall tower (2000). An endowment fund was set up by TrizecHahn. Interest earned is controlled by the City of Calgary and is used for programming on the block, including the installation and maintenance of sound and light systems. |
